Meet Balu: our non-profit platform to help shelters and rescued pets

Today we officially launched Balu! An online platform to help animal associations share their pets and find perfect forever families for all of them.

We care about more things than just “doing our job” ❤️‍🩹

Here at Coletiv, we have some ideas to change the world! 🪄 Or, at least, to start making a difference in the scope of our community. Balu is one of these ideas that turned into a digital product. And today we can finally share it with you all.

Our team is particularly passionate about animals, and knowing about the number of abandoned pets who are indefinitely waiting in a shelter for the love of a family really breaks our hearts.

To make this situation worse, the communication of animal associations does not always find the best way to reach the community, and help requests get lost on different sites, social media networks, or obsolete platforms.

With that said, some years ago, we started thinking about how we could contribute to solving this problem. Lately, we had the chance to bring this project to life, and here is the result!

Sounds good, but what is Balu anyway? 🐱

Balu is an online platform entirely idealized, designed, and developed by our team at Coletiv to give voice to all animal associations, regardless of their scale or other limitations. With a single and universal tool, we believe it is possible to ease the arrival of the community’s aid to shelters and to the animals in need.

Balu is a web app created for those who are looking to help or adopt a pet near them, so we wish all associations to join us.

Besides the main site, we created a very user-friendly back-office for associations to add and share their animals easily. Balu is constantly growing and evolving. At this time, you can enjoy this set of features:

• List of animal associations and their detail pages;
• Search for associations applying filters like location and animal species;
• List of pets and their detail pages;
• Search for pets using filters like location, type of aid, animal species, gender, age range, size, and color.

You may also manifest your interest in adopting or patronizing a pet. At the moment, you cannot carry out the process through Balu’s platform yet.

In the back-office, associations can count on a set of perks too, like:

• create a public profile for the association to share general information like contacts, social media networks, and others;
• add and share, in real-time, pets that need to be adopted or patronized;
• easily manage and organize pet information on a general list or an archive.

Balu is a humble project with a meaningful mission. We care about what goes wrong around us, so we don’t want to be indifferent to this cause.

With Balu, we want to raise awareness and support the real heroes that spend their time rescuing and sheltering helpless animals.

This is the beginning of Balu, but we already have so many ideas to make it grow and boost. Still, step by step, we hope to encourage local assistance and improve the relationship between animal associations and the community.
